Joey 'Essex' Jones joined Cwmcarn at the beginning of last season, following suit of buddy Jordan from the Cefn Fforest scouting network. Like his team mate, he's always training and eager to learn from the Senior players. Being over 6 foot, Essex is your typical centre half, having the ability to win the majority of his headers & tackles but also has the ability to play it out simple from the back. Very brave for a young lad too. Excellent attitude that doesn't shirk any of the training exercises & never moans if not selected. Another key attribute of Essex is from the bench. Unusual for a defender to be given a 'super sub' label, but Essex has proved invaluable over the past year of coming on and being 'The Shield' in front of the back 4. A formula that has proved successful in tight games where he's contributed to his sides victories.

Off the pitch, Essex is 1 of the nicest lads you can come across. Quiet, well mannered, well educated, we'll miss him when he buggers off to Swansea University in a couple of weeks. My only concern is his lack of appearance back at the hotel as we know this guy likes a pint. Despite his studies preventing him from being a regular over the next few seasons, Essex will no doubt contribute as & when he can & a good career (on and off the pitch) lies ahead.
